The Difference Between a Debit Card and a Credit Card

One of the biggest mistakes that people can make is not knowing the difference between a debit and credit card. Why does this matter? The fact is that these two cards work in completely different ways and for those that are unaware of what the difference is, they could find that they are digging themselves into a world of debt or that they are having a checking account that has a balance at zero. Therefore, it is important that people understand the differences so that they can make an informed decision of which card to use in each situation in which they need to buy something.

A debit card is a card that is attached to your checking account. You are going to find that the debit card is used in place of the check or cash that the person may use otherwise to pay for their purchases. The debit card is going to allow the person to have access to their bank account via a card that they carry, which is much easier than the other options. The debit card is going to be swiped at the counter, then the person has to input a pin number that they have designed in order to get hold of the funds that they have. The credit card on the other hand is not attached to any checking account. The amount of the credit card is going to be based on the person's credit history and their credit score that the creditor is going to give the person to use. The credit card is going to have a set limit on how much the person can spend and probably the biggest difference the person is going to see between the two is the fact that credit card is going to charge a fee for using the money, which is something that the debit card is not going to charge.

So is it better to use a debit card or a credit card? Most people are going to state that using your debit card is much better because you are using your own money and not being charged a fee for the use of your own money. Since you are being charged a fee for using your credit card, then you are going to find that you are actually paying more for the objects that you are buying on the credit card, which can lead to even more expense in the end for you. However, when considering bigger purchases, the use of a credit card is the best idea for many people. The key is to use the credit card with sense in order to make sure that you do not get yourself into any trouble.

In the end the difference between the debit card and the credit card is going to mean that the person is going to have to make a decision on which to use for their buying purposes. Whether card they choose is probably going to depend on just what they are buying.
